drums and vocals

yesterday anthony recorded vocals. him and isaac set up a single mic and recorded into logic. anthony listened to the backing track and sang to it over a few takes. once he had a good main vocal line he recorded a lot of different harmonies. in the end he didn't use them all, as the didn't fit, however the ones that we have kept in sound great with the song and he did a good job. this means the song 'dead' is all recorded and now all it needs is to be mixed and mastered.

today i recorded drums for our song 'the day i left' we didn't have a lot of time, so after me and isaac set up all of the mics and plugged them in we did a sound check. this took a while as there was no signal in the fifth input(bottom snare mic) for some reason. after looking into it more and trying a few different things isaac realized it was the mic that was broken, therefore we swapped it with another mic that did work. after this alex and isaac sat in the studio getting the levels right and finally told me they were ready to record(after making me play the whole kit for about 20 minutes). for this recording i set my click to 160 bpm and instead of using the click in logic i just played to the click to my phone, as we didn't have a lot of time. however when we do have time i would usually play to the one in logic, because it saves isaac having to line my drums up after the recording. my first take was tight but anthony and alex mimicked me to play the china cymbal during the breakdown. i didn't do this in my first take as personally i don't think a china cymbal fits this kind of genre (even tho it's quite heavy) . in my second take i did use the china though just so we had a couple of options to choose from. overall both takes were pretty clean and the cymbals sound great on the recording because anthony brought his own cymbals in today so we didn't have to record with the bad college ones. next we will record all other parts and hopefully finish the song before our deadline (it will be close as the deadline is coming up very soon)
